Oh dear FSM... I actually freaked out for several minutes until I saw this thread. I really don't have an excuse, since I just was on GW and everyone was talking about the APRIL FOOLS day joke, but I'm just so used to things that are normally free becoming expensive just because they CAN (guru essentially has a monopoly, as it is well established and incredibly popular, and none of the other non-official-wiki sites either come close or have GW staff attention like this, I believe), so it was kind of believable that they could start charging pretty much whatever they wanted. Plus the fact that it's way too early in the morning didn't help.

Ok, so I'm going to sit down and drink hot chocolate until the shakes go away.

EDIT: Of course I, as the cynical misanthrope that I am, firmly believe that people are generally rotten to the core, and therefore stand by my assumption that this seemingly straightforward, harmless prank could be used as the ultimate mind-f*ck. I mean, if I were going to do such a dickish move as adding exorbitant prices to a formerly free service such as this, I'd of course introduce it on April Fool's day, for the very reason that everyone would think it was a joke. They'd stop laughing soon enough though... *insert suitably evil cackle here*
Honestly, if I were on the guru staff, I'd keep the message up for a day or two after April 1, just to freak people out.

Poor Kattar has been banned for sticking up for a free Guru, long live Kat. Will another mod step up and fight for us small people, save us from the tyrant JR.

I don't know what's better, Guild Wars, Guru, or Google. They're all pretty good this year.

There always has to be some people who don't like April Fool's. Or can't appreciate that a staff, whether for a game, website or forum took some time to try to bring a smile or good prank to their viewers. Even if you don't like it, you have to admit it's cool that some people worked behind the scenes to try and give us a good chuckle.

This would be funnier if Guru wasn't already so covered in ads that even browsing threads is like wandering through a minefield.

What happened to the days when forums had a banner ad and that was it?
